About the District

About Northeast MS Natural Gas District:

Northeast MS Natural Gas District originally started as Mantachie Natural Gas District. Mantachie Natural Gas District was created by the State Legislature in 1961. The Mantachie Lions Club was instrumental in the gas district being created.  It was redone by the State Legislature in 1962. It was then put on hold until 1985.  Evan E. Tomlinson with Tomlinson Engineering begin working to get the system built. Board of Directors in 1985 were A. K. McFerrin, Melton Nabors, and Walter Lesley. The Attorney for the gas district was Mrs. Sharon Richardson, now known as Federal Judge Sharon Aycock. In March of 1987, Mike Horton was hired as District Manager and begin construction with three contractors. Constructing over 100 miles of main line, started hooking up customers with the first billing in October with 52 customers in 1987. It now has expanded over 230 miles of main line and now services over 3,000 customers and three schools. We service the Toyota Plant in Dorsey, Ms.

The present Board of Directors are Kirk Tharp, Lee County Chairman, Mark Spradling, Itawamba Vice-Chairman, and Jerry Pitts, Itawamba Secretary-Treasure.

 Mike Horton, District Manager,  Kendra St. Aubin and Samantha Braden are both Office Personel. Ben Spigner is our Construction Foreman. Andrew Dill and Justin Sartain are both Service Techs.

The Gas District Attorney is Thomas McElroy.

 

The District offers a CNG Station to serve compressed gas to transportation vehicles. The station is now open to the public at $1.68 per gallon. All of our service trucks are now powered by CNG. This saves the district over $2000 a month in fuel cost.
